Jimmy Sommerville's Video and Rarities Compilation Announced

Edsel has announced the release a Jimmy Somerville compilation, 'Dance & Desire • Rarities & Videos' in November. This compilation brings together music and videos from across Somerville’s career beginning with Bronski Beat, moving through the Communards and then Jimmy’s solo career. The story turns full circle with the inclusion of "Smalltown Boy (Reprise 2014)" a new version of the classic track with an accompanying promo film. 'Dance & Desire • Rarities & Videos' includes rare remixes (and videos) not compiled on the previous deluxe reissues, most notably the original twelve-inch versions of 1984 hits "Smalltown Boy" and the full ‘Son Of Gotham City’ mix of "Don’t Leave Me This Way". 'Dance & Desire • Rarities & Videos' will be released on 17 November 2014.

WAW: Terror Bird- Waiting for Nothing / The Wrong Way

Nikki Never from Terror Bird has teamed up with Sally Dige for few videos sessions. Nikki in front and Sally behind the camera directing the videos for the songs "Waiting for Nothing" and "The Wrong Way". This would mean two new videos in Sally's video directing series if we include her own from few years back. Both videos express great DIY sense and a good play of shadow and light, vintage TV screens and dope bedroom indie pop.

Retrovision: Duran Duran- Save a Prayer

Duran Duran released their sixth single "Save A Prayer" thirty years ago. The song was the third single from the band's second album 'Rio'. It became Duran Duran's biggest hit to date Singles Chart reaching #2. The video was filmed by director Russell Mulcahy among the jungles, beaches, and temples of Sri Lanka in April 1982. Scenes were filmed atop the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya, among the ruins of a Buddhist temple at Polonnaruwa and the island's southern coastline.

Retrovision: Kissing The Pink- Watching Their Eyes

Kissing The Pink released their third single "Watching Their Eyes" thirty years ago. This haunting synth pop classic was produced by Colin Thurston and it was issued in various formats in Italy, Germany and in the UK. Recently, we stumbled upon the original video on Youtube which is thrilling and somehow went unnoticed at the time of the original release. Take a look.

WAW: Sensual Harassment - Disco Heart

The Brooklyn based Sensual Harassment are back with a new dose of beat driven psych pop. Their latest video for the song "Disco Heart" was directed by Joel Fernando and it was premiered on August 2, 2012 on 'Vice'. It features sex blogger and Vice TV star Slutever (Karley Sciortino). Retrovision: Republica- Drop Dead Gorgeous

Republica enjoyed some chart success in the 90's with the singles "Ready to Go" and "Drop Dead Gorgeous". Both songs reached the Top Ten of the UK charts. "Drop Dead Gorgeous" hit the chart 15 years ago while "Ready to Go" was reissued during the same year. Both songs were featured on the band's self titled debut album which was released in 1996 on Deconstruction label in the UK.

"Heartbreaker" is another track by the enigmatic Manchester based group or artist known by the name No Ceremony /// also NOC ///. The video shows baby dolls glowing in the dark in the play of neon lights. The music is noisy synth-pop electro lost in the shoegaze darkness.

Chairlift are back with a new video for the song "Met Before" which introduces the new interactive choose-your-own-adventure concept in the video. By clicking all the different decision points you are trying to find the different endings of the video and get a good impression of the song if you haven't heard it before. WAW: School of Seven Bells- Lafaye

School of Seven Bells have revealed a brand new video for their single "Lafaye". The video was directed by David Lowery and Toby Halbrooks and it was shot in an old house in south Dallas. It features lingering shots of singer Alejandra Deheza with lighting effects that mirror the song's slow shift from a steady, grim electronic beat to an ethereal, soaring chorus.

Retrovision: ABC- Poison Arrow

ABC released one of their biggest hits "Poison Arrow" thirty years ago. The song reached #6 in the UK charts and it was also included on their debut album The Lexicon of Love which was issued during the same year. The video features the lead singer Martin Fry in three roles, as a haughty upper-class opera patron, as a messenger boy at the opera, and as a bandleader at a 1960s-style swinging nightspot, in all three roles, unsuccessfully attempting to woo the leading lady, played by Lisa Vanderpump.

WAW: Papermaps- Complicate Things

Toronto based group Papermaps have recorded a video for their second single from their self titled debut album which was released last year. The brilliant video for the song "Complicate Things" was directed by Sammy Ray Welch and filmed in Toronto. The lead singer of the group Dean Marino has previously worked with acts as Tokyo Police Club, C'Mon, and the Black Keys.

Retrovision: Mobiles- Drowning in Berlin

Thirty years ago Mobiles released "Drowning in Berlin" which remained their biggest hit to date. The song entered the UK Charts at #9. Mobiles performed this song on TOTP and the original video version has remained a fixture on MTV to this day.

Retrovision: Ultravox- The Voice

Thirty years ago, Ultravox had a huge hit with "The Voice", their second single which was taken form the album 'Rage in Eden' released in the same year. The song was recorded in Conny Plank's Studio in Cologne, Germany and it reached the top 20 in the UK peaking at # 16. There were two different videos made for the single. One has the band miming a performance in a slanted room with the band members appearing to be standing at an unnatural angle. The other video is more elaborate, contains war imagery, single-word slogans in knock-out text, features Billy Currie appearing as a radio announcer, and Midge Ure as a soldier.

WAW: PJ Harvey- On The Battleship Hill

This year PJ Harvey has won the Mercury for the best album of 2011. Her album Let England Shake is her second to win this prestigious award. It's exactly ten years since she won her first Mercury for the album Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea in 2001. Among the contenders for this years Mercury Prize were also Adele, James Blake and Elbow. The video for the songs is from the series of 12 Short Films by Seamus Murphy.

Retrovision: Eurythmics- Thorn in My Side

25 years ago Eurythmics released "Thorn in My Side" and enjoyed some chart success around Europe. The single reached the top 10 in the UK, Sweden and Ireland. The song was written by both members of the group and it was by Dave Stewart.

Retrovision: P. Lion- Happy Children

The Italian born singer and producer Pietro Paolo Pelandi aka P.Lion made a big breakthrough with "Happy Childern" in 1983. The song was produced by Davide Zambelli of the band Scotch. In 1984, he then released his debut album and several singles followed. Since the original release date in 1983, "Happy Children" has been remastered several times and the most recent one is on 'Nocolors' which also features a remix and instrumental version of the song.
