Retrovision: The Stupid Set - Hello, I Love You

Originally recorded by The Doors, "Hello, I Love You" was reinterpreted in 1981 by the Italian minimal-synth/post-punk act The Stupid Set. Their version was conceived as a response to the emerging styles and aesthetic shifts of the new decade, filtering the song through a colder, more mechanized sensibility. The accompanying video extended this idea, aligning the track with contemporary visual aesthetics and early explorations of new media and technology.

Faust - Toute première fois

 “Toute première fois”, originally a synth-pop breakthrough by Jeanne Mas in 1984, was vividly recreated by the French artist Faust and released as a cover single on July 25, 2025, through Panache Records. 

 

David Byrne and Robyn Perform the 15th Anniversary of "Dancing on My Own"

Robyn has recently teamed up with David Byrne for the performance of Robyn's classic from 2010, "Dancing on My Own." During the live performance, both singers were dressed in matching suits, reminiscent of Byrne's huge outfit designed by Gail Blacker.

Andy Bell, Dot Allison & Michael Rother - I'm in Love with a German Film Star

Andy Bell of Ride, has teamed up with Dot Allison and Michael Rother for an album collaboration titled Pinball Wanderer which is due for release on February 28th. The first single has been revealed on YouTube, and it is the cover version of the Passion's classic "I'm in Love with a German Film Star" that was released in January 1981.

Summer Wine 2020

 Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand fame and Clara Luciani of La Femme and Nouvelle Vague have recorded a duet for the legendary "Summer Wine". The song was performed as the English/French cover version last year at Olympia in Paris. The video was premiered yesterday and it was directed by Ryder the Eagle.

LCD Soundsystem Cover Heaven 17 and the Human League as Part of the Electric Lady Sessions

LCD Soundsystem have released a new live album this week, titled 'Electric Lady Sessions'. The 12-track double-LP was recorded live at the Electric Lady studios in New York. The album features live renditions of cuts from the band’s comeback LP 'American Dream' along with some of the LCD Soundsystem favorites from 80's including The Human League’s “Seconds and Heaven 17’s “(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang.” The live album is available to preorder now on vinyl or digitally. 

 

WAW: Claudia Brücken- Whispering Pines

The video for Claudia Brücken's song "Whispering Pines" has been premiered on Youtube. "Whispering Pines" was written by Robbie Robertson and Richard Manuel and it is just one of the songs that can be found on Claudia Brücken's cover album 'The Lost Are Found' which was released last month. The video was filmed on purpose in an empty forest packed with hidden secrets, near a deserted English coastline, where something is about to happen, and was directed by Martin Gooch and Ray Moody.

Tracey Thorn Announces New Cover Album for October 30th

Tracey Thorn is back this autumn with her fourth studio album. Her new Christmas album is entitled 'Tinsel and Lights' and it features ten seasonal cover versions by the likes of White Stripes, Joni Mitchell, Sufjan Stevens, Scritti Politti and many more. The album also features two brand new songs and a duet with Green Gartside. The album was produced Ewan Pearson and it will be released on October 30th on 'Strange Feelings'. Iggy Pop Goes French on 'Après'

Iggy Pop has released a brand new album on which he pays tribute to French culture and heritage. The album is entitled 'Après' and features his covers of French classics by Serge Gainsbourg, Georges Brassens, Edith Piaf, Joe Dassin, Henri Salvador and also the Beatles and Frank Sinatra. 'Après' is officially out May 9th and it is available as a digital download via 'believe digital'.

Heaven 17/BEF- "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" Live

Here is brilliant performance of the song "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" by Heaven 17/ BEF during the two day music festival "Music of Quality and Distinction" live at London's Roundhouse. The song appeared on The Human League's album 'Reproduction' and was performed by Philip Oakey. Righteous Brothers' original was released in 1965.

Crystal Castles have teamed up with Robert Smith to record a song which is rumored to be their next single. The song is a track on their second album which was remixed and given a new life with Robert Smith's vocals. "Not In Love" is actually a cover of 80's New wave band Platinum Blonde.

"The Day Before You Came" is indeed a notable song by ABBA, released in 1982. While it didn't achieve the same level of commercial success as some of their previous hits, it has gained recognition over time for its haunting melody and introspective lyrics. 

Blancmange's cover of the song in 1984 brought a fresh interpretation to the track. The Killers Cover Joy Division's Shadowplay for the Upociming Ian Curtis Bipoic

The Killers have covered the 1979 Joy Division song "Shadowplay" for the soundtrack to the forthcoming movie about the life of the band's front man Ian Curtis. The movie, Control, is based on the book Touching From A Distance, by Curtis' widow Deborah who also co-produced the movie. She is played by Samantha Morton. The film was directed by famed music video director Anton Corbijn. As previously reported on nme.com, New Order have recorded the incidental music for the movie, and are also mooted to be re-recording a number of Joy Division tracks. The biopic is set for a September 2007 release
