Retrovision: The Lotus Eaters - It Hurts

Released in February 1985, “It Hurts” was the final single (in the 80s) from Liverpool sophisti-pop duo The Lotus Eaters. By then, singer Peter Coyle and guitarist Jem Kelly were already heading in different creative directions, and the band would soon part ways with Arista and effectively disappear. Its striking monochrome video, built around footage of silent-film icon Louise Brooks, almost feels like a farewell. Coyle conceived the video’s winning storyboard, while Kelly reportedly reacted to its rejection by performing his parts during the shoot with a blindfold over his eyes.

 

The Lotus Eaters- No Sense of Sin Reissue

'No Sense of Sin', the debut album by the British group the Lotus Eaters has been reissued by Cherry Red. The album was originally released in 1984 and featured the hits "The First Picture of You" and "You Don't Need Someone New". The band are still very active, having given an extremely well received performance at the Liverpool Philharmonic Theatre in 2009 and currently putting the finishing touches to a new album.

Instant Hit: Lotus Eaters- Love Still Flows

The Lotus Eaters made their debut in 1983 with "The Pictures of You" which remained their biggest hit. They released their only album No Sense of Sin in 1984. "Love Still Flows" was one of the outstanding tracks on the album which was not issued as a single. It perfectly displays Lotus Eaters' melancholia and gentleness.
