Hilary Blake, also known simply as Hilary, emerged onto the music scene with a single and EP in 1983. Despite limited online information, it is noted that she was from Los Angeles and was recognized as one of the pioneering female artists in the synth-pop genre. The Associates

The Associates were a Scottish Post-punk and New wave band from the early '80s, consisting of Billy Mackenzie and Alan Rankine . Under the name The Associates, they achieved Top of the Pops fame, despite their unconventional approach to pop music which inspired music critics to label it as "new pop." Mackenzie and Rankine met in 1976 and formed the band The Ascorbic Ones and soon after they changed their name to The Associates. Their debut single was David Bowie’s song “Boys Keep Swinging” , which to great surprise was also released before Bowie’s version. This song attracted a good deal of attention and by 1980, they were touring with The Cure and The Passions and were signed to Fiction. In the same year, the band released their debut The Affectionate Punch . By this time the duo was extended to a group by adding bassist Michael Dempsey and drummer John Murphy, even though in most promotional material the group were still marketed as a duo. In Conversation: Brian Moss (Vicious Pink)

Vicious Pink, a synth-pop duo consisting of Brian Moss and Josephine Warden, originated in Leeds, England in 1981. Initially, they served as backing vocalists for Soft Cell under the name Vicious Pink Phenomena. Despite releasing several singles in the early part of the decade, their breakthrough came with "CCCan't You See," produced by Tony Mansfield of New Musik fame. During the early 1980s, Vicious Pink stood among the few bands considered pioneers of the techno sound. They are credited with coining the term to describe music in 1982, well ahead of its adoption by Detroit DJs in 1986. Instant Hit: This Island Earth- Take Me to The Fire

"Take Me To The Fire" was one of the two singles released by the five-piece band This Island Earth during their brief existence in the mid-80s. The single was available in both 7" and 12" formats and featured "Pearl of Love" as its B-side. Released in 1985 by Magnet, the track received regular airplay on WLIR radio during the summer of 1985.

Instant Hit: The Popular Sex - This May Save Your Life

The Popular Sex released their only album, Power of Suggestion , during their brief stint in 1984. Reportedly, the album features tracks recorded from the late 70s up to 1981. It was released by a small Atlanta label called Wild Carbon Software. Here in this feature we would like to present the closing and our favorite track of the album, "This May Say Your Live."

Instant Hit: James Cuts - Sexify You

James Lebon, a London-based hairdresser, graphic designer, and film director, made a foray into the music industry under the alias James Cuts. He recorded a song that served as a promotional piece for his professional work. The track, featuring Alan Rankine from The Associates on guitar/bass, was released by Les Disques Du Crépuscule in 1984.

Best of 1994 - The Singles List

In the music world, the year 1994 is mostly remembered for the tragic death of Kurt Cobain, who committed suicide on April 5th. Cobain's death marked a pivotal moment for the grunge movement, which had dominated the early '90s. With his passing, grunge reached its peak but also began to slowly dissolve. During this time, punk rock experienced a resurgence, thanks in large part to bands like Green Day and The Offspring. Green Day's album Dookie and The Offspring's Smash brought punk energy back into the mainstream with a new twist, most notable as skate punk and pop punk. Oasis released their debut album Definitely Maybe, which sold 100,000 copies within just four days of release, earning them the record for the fastest-selling debut album in British history.
