WATCH: Soap&Skin - Girl Loves Me

"Girl Loves Me" is the second single for the Austrian singer Anja Plaschg who records under the name Soap&Skin. This and the cover of the song "Mystery of Love" which we already announced here are featured on her album Torso that was released on November 22nd.

The Wombats - Blood on the Hospital Floor

The Wombats have released a brand new single titled "Blood on the Hospital Floor". This song will be featured on their upcoming studio album Oh! The Ocean scheduled for February 2025.

Sade - Young Lion

Sade has released her first single in six years, titled "Young Gun".This song is part of Transa:Selects compilation that celebrates the spiritual journey of trans people. It also features tracks by Perfume Genius, Fleet Foxes, Moses Sumney and many others.

Retrovision: Blue Zone - On Fire

"On Fire" was a third single release for the UK trio Blue Zone led by Lisa Stansfield. Shortly after the release of the single on 18 November 1987, fire broke at King's Cross St Pancras tube station. It killed thirty-one people and hundred were taken to hospital, nineteen with serious injuries. Just as the single was climbing up the charts, it was withdrawn by the record company in the UK in the wake of this disaster.

Manic Street Preachers - Hiding in Plain Sight

Manic Street Preachers have returned with two new singles, "Decline and Fall" and "Hiding in Plain Sight." The latter track features vocals by the bassist Nicky Wire and Catherine Anne Davies. Their forthcoming studio album, Critical Thinking, is set for release on January 31, 2025.

Allie X has released a new single titled "Bon Voyage". Earlier this year she released her third studio album Girl with No Face. This songs promotes the album's Deluxe edition which features album tracks in a different arrangements.

Instant Hit: The Glove - Like An Animal

The Glove released their debut single, "Like an Animal," in August 1983. As a side project of Robert Smith from The Cure and Steve Severin from Siouxsie and the Banshees, the project allowed both musicians to take a break from their where they recruited Jeanette Landray to take on lead vocal duties for the song. The band released one-off album, Blue Sunshine, before disbanding, with Smith and Severin returning to their original bands.

Out Today: The Cure - Songs of The Lost World

The Cure have released their fourteenth studio album Songs of The Lost World today. The album was already promoted with the string of singles including the their latest, "All I Ever Am". It is their first new material since their album 4:13 Dream which was released back in 2008 which was originally intended to be released in 2019. Last month, we also featured here the first single "Alone".

Best of 1994 - The Singles List

In the music world, the year 1994 is mostly remembered for the tragic death of Kurt Cobain, who committed suicide on April 5th. Cobain's death marked a pivotal moment for the grunge movement, which had dominated the early '90s. With his passing, grunge reached its peak but also began to slowly dissolve.

During this time, punk rock experienced a resurgence, thanks in large part to bands like Green Day and The Offspring. Green Day's album Dookie and The Offspring's Smash brought punk energy back into the mainstream with a new twist, most notable as skate punk and pop punk.

Across the Atlantic, the Britpop movement was in full swing, with bands like Oasis, Blur, and Pulp leading the charge. Oasis released their debut album Definitely Maybe, which sold 100,000 copies within just four days of release, earning them the record for the fastest-selling debut album in British history.

Nine Inch Nails also made a significant impact in 1994 with the release of The Downward Spiral, pushing industrial rock into mainstream consciousness and becoming a landmark album in the genre.

In January 1994, Bryan Adams made history by becoming the first major Western music star to perform in Vietnam since the end of the Vietnam War, symbolizing a significant moment in cultural diplomacy.

Wet Wet Wet's cover of "Love Is All Around," from the film Four Weddings and a Funeral, dominated the UK Singles Chart, staying at number #1 for fifteen weeks, making it the second-longest consecutive run at number 1 in the UK Singles Chart history.

Woodstock '94 celebrated the 25th anniversary of the original Woodstock Festival and featured notable performances, including Green Day's infamous mud fight with the crowd on Day 3, a moment that has since become legendary.

A Flock of Seagulls - Some Dreams

A Flock of Seagulls have released their first single since 1995. Known for their 80s hits "I Ran (So Far Away)" and "Space Age Love Song," the band is making a comeback with their brand-new single "Some Dreams." A new album is also in the works and is scheduled for release in 2025.

R.Missing - Sleep Will Darken It

R.Missing aka Sharon Shy, the former The Ropes singer, has reveled a video for the new single "Sleep Will Darken It."

Alison Goldfrapp - I Wanna Be Loved

Following her debut solo album The Love Invention from last year, Alison Goldfrapp is set for new music releases. Once again, she has teamed up with Richard X and her brand-new single "I Wanna Be Loved (Just A Little Better)"

Retrovision: Billy Idol - Eyes Without a Face

"Eyes Without a Face" was released 40 years ago and became Billy Idol's first single to reach the Billboard Hot 100. The song was inspired by the title of the French horror film Les Yeux sans visage (1960). It featured backing vocals from Perri Lister, who was also Idol's partner at the time. Prior to this, Lister had provided backing vocals for Visage and Kid Creole and the Coconuts. Additionally, she appeared topless in Duran Duran's video for the song "The Chauffeur."

Instant Hit: Swans - Power and Sacrifice

"Power and Sacrifice" is the second track on Swans' seventh studio album, White Light from the Mouth of Infinity. Although it was never released as a single, it stands out as one of the most remarkable tracks on the album.

Next Wave: Telenova

Telenova is a Melbourne-based trio formed in the early 2020s. The band comprises singer Angeline Armstrong and multi-instrumentalists Edward Quinn and Joshua Moriarty. Since their formation, Telenova has released two EPs and several singles, establishing a distinctive sound that blends electronic art pop with influences of trip hop and indie folk. Their music has been noted for its atmospheric qualities and intricate production, creating a unique sonic palette that sets them apart.

Their debut album, set for release in August, is highly anticipated and expected to further cement their place in the contemporary music scene.

Vicious Pink come back with "Unexpected" LP

British electronic duo Vicious Pink is set to release their highly anticipated LP Unexpected, featuring previously unreleased material. Comprising Josephine Warden and Brian Moss, the duo gained recognition for a series of singles released between 1982 and 1988, most notably their track "Cccan't You See...". In 1986, they released their self-titled debut album, which compiled their single releases. The upcoming album, "Unexpected," will be released via Minimal Wave on May 21, 2024. Geneva Jacuzzi - Dry

Geneva Jacuzzi is back with a brand new single and video for the song "Dry". This release also marks her debut on Dais records and we hope to hear more new material throughput 2024.

Instant Hit: Oto - Anyway

The French Minimal wave/Post punk outfit Oto who were formed in 1979 released two singles and one EP back in the 80s. "Anyway" was recorded and released in Paris, in 1984 while their EP Purge and Urge followed two years later in 1986 after which the band disbanded. "Anyway" was reissued in 2022 by Replica records with the original B-sides.

Retrovision: Siouxsie and Banshees - Swimming Horses

Forty years ago, Siouxsie and Banshees released "Swimming Horses" which was the first single from their sixth album Hyæna released in 1984. Unlike their previous singles, this song was based on the piano melody making it a great gothic art pop experiment.

Next Wave: Sunship Balloon

Sunship Balloon emerged in 2020, comprising two-thirds of The Wombats. When lead singer Matthew Murphy ventured into Love Fame Tragedy, his bandmates Dan Haggis and Tord Øverland-Knudsen embarked on a new sonic journey as Sunship Balloon. Their music blends Synth and Indie Pop, resulting in a captivating indietronica sound. To date, they have released two studio albums, including Real Humans, which debuted in January of this year and has swiftly become one of our favorite albums of 2024. Selofan - Sticky Fingers

Selofan have returned after four years break with a new single and video for the song "Sticky Fingers". Their new studio album Animal Mentality is announced for release on April 10th. The video for the song was directed by Tassos Gkoletsos.

Echoberyl - Through the Chaos

Paris based Echoberyl have released a new single "Through the Chaos" this week. This also announces the their fourth album of the same name which is scheduled for May 3rd.

Houses of Heaven - Deserve

San Francisco based Houses of Heaven have revealed a new video for the song "Deserve" which features Mariana Saldaña aka MS. BOAN. This song also announces their second album Within/Without which is announced for release on April 26th.

Instant Hit: Android A 21st Century Band - My Love is Like a Shooting Star

Before Android became a ubiquitous mobile operating system, it was associated with humanoid operating machines, often referred to as robots. In 1980, a band named Android A 21st Century Band adopted this concept, embodying avant-garde ideals and a futuristic outlook. They were pioneers in synthesizing the human voice, a technique that would later be recognized as the vocoder. Here is "My Love is Like a Shooting Star," a track from their sole album In Tune with Tomorrow released in 1982.

Male Tears - SoD

Male Tears, based in LA, has debuted the video for their song "Sex on Drugs" (aka SoD). The track offers a unique fusion of Italo disco rhythms with Goth-style vocals and visual aesthetics. Additionally, it incorporates elements of hiNrg and EBM. This release coincides with the announcement of the band's upcoming tour dates.

Retrovision: Sparks - When Do I Get to Sing "My Way"

Thirty years ago, Sparks released one of their standout hits from the 90s, "When Do I Get to Sing 'My Way'". Known for their ability to seamlessly adapt to musical trends, Sparks transitioned from Moroder Disco in the 70s to Synth-pop in the 80s, and by the 90s, they embraced the popular Euro Dance sound. The song is a reference to Frank Sinatra's iconic "My Way" and found its place on their album Gratuitous Sax & Senseless Violins.

St Vincent is back with a new single titled, "Broken Man". This release also announces her new studio album All Born Screaming which is set for release on April 26th. The video for the song was directed by Alex Da Corte.

Next Wave: Holy Wire

Holy Wire, also known as Alain Paradis, is a musician based in Austin, Texas. Starting with the release of his first singles in 2022, followed by more in 2023, Holy Wire's music bears the influence of bands like The Smiths and The Cure, infused with the electronic soundscapes of the early 80s, often with a dark undertone. Recently, Alain relocated to Brooklyn, NYC, where he crossed paths with producer Abe Seiferth, known for his work with Nation of Language. Cosmetics - Pillow Talk

A new video from Jonathan Bree has been premired this week. It for the song "Steel and Glass" which is taken from his album Pre-Code Hollywood that was released last year. This release marks a departure from his usual masked image, signaling his new artistic direction.

Retrovision: Blue Peter - Don't Walk Past

Blue Peter's video for the song "Don't Walk Past" has been remastered in 2021, and the new version is now available on YouTube. Originally released in 1983, the song was part of their second album, Falling. Interestingly, this video marked the first appearance of a Canadian indie label video on MTV in the U.S.

The Record Store Day has announced releases for this year as part of their celebration on April 20. One standout release is Kim Wilde's Special Disco Mixes compilation, featuring her early 80's hits from the RAK catalogue specially extended and reinvented in the spirit of the 80s.

This double LP channels vibes of electro, disco, synthwave, and Hi-NRG, packaged in era-authentic gatefold artwork with stunning photography. The Norwegian duo Bel Canto have released their first single in more than twenty years. The song is entitled "Grass Mint Crisp" and it also announces Bel Canto's seventh studio album Radiant Green which will be released on April 24th. The new single is available on all major platforms and can be streamed below as well as one of their biggest hits "A Shoulder to the Wheel" from 1991.

Minimal Schlager is a synth-pop duo based in Berlin, originally from Argentina. The duo comprises siblings Fran and Alicia Parisi, who debuted with their first single in 2020. Since then, they have released their debut album, Love, Sex & Dreams, in 2022. In 2023, they released Dance is a Place of Resistance, a compilation featuring newly released reworks, remixes, demos, and covers. Their musical style is characterized by industrial melancholy and darkness, reminiscent of artists like Chromatics and Gold Zebra.

Ronnie Stone, previously associated with The Lonely Riders with whom they have released one album in 2016 is now back with his solo work. He has released his debut album Ride Again that comes with this powerful lead single "Diamond"

Retrovision: Banderas - This is Your Life

The Communards' offshoot Banderas that consisted of the female duo Caroline Buckley and Sally Herbert, released three singles in the beginning of the 90's. This is your Life was the most successful out of the three reaching the UK Top 40 at number 16 in 1991.

"It's the Truth" is a brand new single from Kirin J Callinan's fifth studio album If I Could Sing that has been released on February 2nd via Worse Records.

Instant Hit: James Cuts - Sexify You

James Lebon, a London-based hairdresser, graphic designer, and film director, made a foray into the music industry under the alias James Cuts. He recorded a song that served as a promotional piece for his professional work.
