Next Wave: Holy Wire

Holy Wire, also known as Alain Paradis, is a musician based in Austin, Texas. Starting with the release of his first singles in 2022, followed by more in 2023, Holy Wire's music bears the influence of bands like The Smiths and The Cure, infused with the electronic soundscapes of the early 80s, often with a dark undertone. Recently, Alain relocated to Brooklyn, NYC, where he crossed paths with producer Abe Seiferth, known for his work with Nation of Language.  A new video from Jonathan Bree has been premired this week. It for the song "Steel and Glass" which is taken from his album Pre-Code Hollywood that was released last year. This release marks a departure from his usual masked image, signaling his new artistic direction.

Retrovision: Blue Peter - Don't Walk Past

Blue Peter's video for the song "Don't Walk Past" has been remastered in 2021, and the new version is now available on YouTube. Originally released in 1983, the song was part of their second album, Falling. Interestingly, this video marked the first appearance of a Canadian indie label video on MTV in the U.S.

Kim Wilde's Classic Era Hits to be Reissued as Part of Special Disco Mixes (Record Store Day)

 The Record Store Day has announced releases for this year as part of their celebration on April 20. One standout release is Kim Wilde's Special Disco Mixes compilation, featuring her early 80's hits from the RAK catalogue specially extended and reinvented in the spirit of the 80s.

This double LP channels vibes of electro, disco, synthwave, and Hi-NRG, packaged in era-authentic gatefold artwork with stunning photography. Bel Canto - Grass Mint Crisp

The Norwegian duo Bel Canto have released their first single in more than twenty years. The song is entitled "Grass Mint Crisp" and it also announces Bel Canto's seventh studio album Radiant Green which will be released on April 24th. The new single is available on all major platforms and can be streamed below as well as one of their biggest hits "A Shoulder to the Wheel" from 1991.

Idles have released their fifth studio album TANGK today. The album release was preceded by three singles, including "Dancer" and "Grace," both released last year. Minimal Schlager is a synth-pop duo based in Berlin, originally from Argentina. The duo comprises siblings Fran and Alicia Parisi, who debuted with their first single in 2020. Since then, they have released their debut album, Love, Sex & Dreams, in 2022. In 2023, they released Dance is a Place of Resistance, a compilation featuring newly released reworks, remixes, demos, and covers. Their musical style is characterized by industrial melancholy and darkness, reminiscent of artists like Chromatics and Gold Zebra.

 Ronnie Stone, previously associated with The Lonely Riders with whom they have released one album in 2016 is now back with his solo work. He has released his debut album Ride Again that comes with this powerful lead single "Diamond"

Retrovision: Banderas - This is Your Life

 The Communards' offshoot Banderas that consisted of the female duo Caroline Buckley and Sally Herbert, released three singles in the beginning of the 90's. This is your Life was the most successful out of the three reaching the UK Top 40 at number 16 in 1991.

 "It's the Truth"  is a brand new single from Kirin J Callinan's fifth studio album If I Could Sing that has been released on February 2nd via Worse Records.

Instant Hit: James Cuts - Sexify You

 James Lebon, a London-based hairdresser, graphic designer, and film director, made a foray into the music industry under the alias James Cuts. He recorded a song that served as a promotional piece for his professional work. The track, featuring Alan Rankine from The Associates on guitar/bass, was released by Les Disques Du Crépuscule in 1984.
